Yesterday was Janmashtami. It rained a lot in the morning. There was again massive water-logging in front of our house. Yesterday was also kind of my birthday because the day I was born, that day was Janmashtami too. And it had rained a lot on that day too. The doctor had told my mother, "Krishno jonmechhey..."
From 1993, our entire family used to watch Ramanand Sagar's Shri Krishna on Doordarshan. Though I used to find the pace of the serial to be very slow. It was later dubbed in bengali too. And it was my grandmother's favourite serial. I just loved Swapnil Joshi as the young, handsome and flirtatious Krishna.
However even to this day, Nitish Bharadwaj from B.R. Chopra's Mahabharat is still the face of Krishna in the subconscious psyche of the Indian population.
Also remember him distinctly in the 1988 film Trishagni which was directed by Nabendu Ghosh. Saw the film again a few months back. The film was based on Buddhist historical short story 'Moru O Sangho' written by Sharadindu Bandyopadhyay. The film also starred Nana Patekar, Pallavi Joshi and Alok Nath in lead roles.
Coming back to yesterday's Janmashtami now. Inspite of all the rainfall, there was this puja at our place. My mother made those delicious Janmashtami-related sweets and I just loved them.
In the evening I went to watch the theatre Antony Soudamini at Academy of Fine Arts with friends. Loved it very much. Everyone acted really well and it was well-directed by Soumitro Mitra. Anirban Bhattacharjee in the role of Antony, Gargi Roychoudhury in the role of Soudamini and Rajat Gangopadhyay in the role of Bhola Moira were brilliant.
Had a get-together at a friend's place in the night. The party went on till dawn. Today in the morning went to Royal Calcutta Golf Club for breakfast. A friend took these two pictures while I was sipping water-melon juice.
And just like that...
